SIM TM - Simulation and Interactive Analysis
- SIM is a Graphical User
Interface (GUI) for simulation, interactive modeling,
analysis and training
- SIM can be driven by a
transient analysis code or by data from a facility
- SIM configurations can be for
simulation & training or for interactive analysis or
for combined use
- SIM links to any time dependent
analysis code - SIM is currently linked to the RELAP5 and
MELCOR codes
- SIM uses plant specific models
and screens developed by the user
- SIM allows the user to build
and link his own screens with the drag and drop
Screen Builder
- SIM runs under Windows NT 4.0
on Pentium PCs and on DEC Alpha Workstations
MORE DETAILS
SIM Simulation, Interactive Modeling and Analysis
of Time Dependent Processes
- Develop, test and use transient models
efficiently by observing the data from ongoing
calculations on screen.
- Perform transient and accident
calculations with instant on-screen display of all
calculated information.
- Interactively change the scenario
during execution by changing status of active components
(start/stop pumps, open/close valves, etc.)
- Produce edited report ready plots and
screen graphs for paperless export to word processor.
- On-line status change of plant
configuration via:
- Initiating events and
component failure events in prepared Malfunction
Table (run setup)
- During execution or
simulation, add, change or delete runtime
component failures
- Model outage times or repair
times
- Model automatic control and
protection system interactions
- SIM features full control Replay, an
Events Log and execution speed control
- On-line display of transient parameter
plots instantly during execution or simulation:
- Multiple plots with multiple
curves on-screen simultaneously with unlimited
plot pages
- On-line automatic and manual
scale range changes with linear or logarithmic
scales and unit conversion
- On-line parameter value
scanning and event marking on plots
- Plot arithmetic combinations
of plot parameters (averages, differences,
scaling, etc)
- Print from screens or write
plot file for post-processing with GRAPHMAN
- Post-processor curve merging,
plot editing, labeling, printing and paperless
exporting
- On-line visualization screens for
nodalization data & dynamic processes

SIM
Simulator Applications
- Run independent first principle test
calculations for simulator training scenarios.
- Test and ascertain the fidelity and
limits of your training simulator.
- Build a flexible training center with
separate instructor and trainee stations based on the
same codes and models used for your design and licensing
calculations.
- Build a more flexible screen based
analytical training simulator driven by the same codes
and models used to perform the design and licensing
calculations for the plant.
SIM
Transient Simulation
- Display plant status in interactive
P&ID type System Screens, Control Panel Screens and
SPDS Screens
- Screens display dynamically color
coded component, system & plant status; dynamic
numerical data windows; water level; local temperature,
pressure, void fraction, etc in continuous color scale
- Simulate control room actions on-line
by interactive mouse or touch panel actions in Control
Panel Screens
- Nodalization screen displays color
coded temperature, pressure, density, void fraction, flow
rate in full model
- One or two monitor configuration, or
instructor station with separate trainee stations, or
control room style configurations
- RELSIM and MELSIM run in real-time
with realistic plant models on current PCs and DEC Alpha
Workstations
- User creates, modifies & links
screens efficiently with drag & drop screen editor
& component shape library

Post
Processor - GRAPHMAN
- SIM or TVP can write a plot file or
print a color screen at any time during execution or
simulation
- Process plot files into report ready
graphs with the interactive graphical post processor
GRAPHMAN for paperless exporting to word processor
- Select parameters from filtered list,
up to 10 curves per graph; merge curves from different
cases or from test data
- Add titles, axis descriptions, labels
& edit legend; set linear or logarithmic scale range;
add gridlines & bars

SIM Applications
- SIM is an efficient, user-friendly and
time-saving tool for transient, design basis & severe
accident analysis
- Use SIM to develop, evaluate, test and
validate off-normal and emergency procedures
- Evaluate limits and fidelity of plant
simulator models, test and verify simulator sessions
- Train staff in simulator-like
environment for transient & accident response with
detailed physical insight
- Use system for individual or group
training
- Develop, optimize, validate and
implement accident management guidelines
- Let the codes you use drive SIM, use
your own code models, design & build your own screens
SIM Training
Uses
- Conduct emergency drills on a system
that handles the full range of conditions.
- Give the senior technical staff an
individual training tool that yields detailed physical
insights for a scenario.
- Give your senior staff a training
scenario on a disk with the instruction: "Tell me in
two weeks what is happening in this scenario."
- Drive the SPDS screens with a full
range accident analysis tool for technical support center
training.
- Give your emergency procedure and
severe accident management guideline team a user-friendly
tool to develop and evaluate candidate procedures by test
simulation.
- Have a first principle tool to train
your staff and the TSC in the new SAMGs.
- Conduct severe accident management
training for safety and technical support center staff
